The Bite Science Optix is ideal for lure anglers who value a light, smooth and responsive spinning reel without wanting to spend heavily on a premium finesse reel. It is particularly suited to anglers regularly casting soft plastics, hard bodies and other lightweight lures for species such as bream, trout, redfin, Australian bass, estuary perch and flathead.

The 2000S is the dedicated finesse option for lighter lines and presentations, the 3000 provides the most versatile balance between finesse and general estuary fishing, while the 4000 provides additional line capacity and drag for larger estuary and light inshore species.

Low Start-up Inertia

The Optix has been developed to feel light and responsive from the moment the handle begins to turn, requiring very little initial effort to get the rotor moving. This low start-up inertia gives the reel a noticeably light and refined winding feel that is particularly suited to finesse lure fishing where anglers are constantly casting and retrieving throughout the day.

Smooth Carbon Drag System

The Optix uses carbon drag washers and has been specifically refined during development to provide a smooth and progressive drag. Smooth drag performance is particularly important when fishing light line and leaders because the drag can begin releasing line progressively when a fish makes a run, helping anglers manage sudden changes in load without relying on excessively heavy tackle.

Infinite Anti-Reverse

Infinite anti-reverse provides immediate engagement when pressure is applied to the handle, removing noticeable backwards handle movement before the reel engages. This creates a more direct and responsive feel when working lures, setting hooks or applying pressure to a fish.

8+1 Stainless Steel Bearings

The Optix features an 8+1 stainless steel bearing system designed to contribute to its smooth and refined operating feel. The bearing configuration includes two line roller bearings, providing additional support at an important contact point as line travels onto the spool.

Lightweight Reinforced Nylon Construction

The body, side plate and rotor use reinforced nylon construction to keep overall reel weight down while maintaining the structural support required for its intended light and medium spinning applications. The 2000S weighs 218g, the 3000 weighs 235g and the 4000 weighs 245g, helping maintain a comfortable and balanced setup for repeated casting.

Screw-In Handle

The screw-in handle connects directly into the drive system rather than relying on a conventional handle arrangement with a separate retaining cap. This provides a positive connection between the handle and reel gearing and contributes to the direct winding feel of the Optix.

Aluminium Spool

A lightweight aluminium spool provides a durable line-holding platform while complementing the Optix's finesse-oriented construction and refined appearance.

Thick Bail Wire

The Optix is fitted with a thick bail wire that provides a robust line-management component while retaining the lightweight overall construction of the reel.

Size-Specific Handle Knobs

The Optix 2000S and 3000 use a rubber paddle-style handle knob suited to lighter finesse and general-purpose spinning, while the larger 4000 uses a rubber T-handle to provide a more substantial grip for its heavier fishing applications.

Three Practical Spinning Sizes

The Optix range consists of a shallow-spool 2000S, versatile 3000 and larger 4000. This allows the same light and smooth reel platform to cover everything from finesse soft plastics and light lure casting through to larger estuary and inshore applications.

What makes the Optix a finesse reel?

The Optix has been developed around the characteristics that matter when repeatedly casting and retrieving light lures, including low start-up inertia, lightweight construction, smooth winding performance and a smooth carbon drag system. The reel requires very little initial effort to begin turning, giving it a light and responsive feel when working soft plastics, hard bodies and other finesse presentations.

Which Optix size should I choose?

Choose the 2000S for dedicated finesse fishing with lighter lines and smaller lures for species such as bream, trout, redfin, Australian bass and estuary perch. The 3000 provides additional line capacity while retaining a light feel, making it an excellent general estuary option for bream, flathead, bass and similar species. The 4000 provides greater capacity and 18lb maximum drag for anglers targeting larger flathead, tailor, salmon, snapper and other medium estuary and inshore fish.

Does the Optix have infinite anti-reverse?

Yes. The Optix features infinite anti-reverse for immediate engagement when pressure is applied to the handle. This removes noticeable backwards handle movement before engagement and contributes to the direct and responsive feel of the reel when working lures or setting the hook.
