The Bite Science Shift-R is ideal for anglers who enjoy visual surface fishing for freshwater, estuary and inshore predators. The compact 70mm model is particularly well suited to lighter tackle and species such as bream, whiting, Australian bass and estuary perch, while the larger 85mm model provides greater surface presence for larger bass, estuary perch, flathead, tailor, trevally, mangrove jack and other aggressive predators.

At only $15 RRP for either size, the Shift-R is also an accessible option for anglers wanting to try walk-the-dog surface fishing for the first time, while experienced surface anglers can affordably carry multiple sizes and colours to suit changing conditions.

Walk-The-Dog Surface Action

The Bite Science Shift-R is designed to produce an enticing side-to-side walk-the-dog action across the surface. Short rhythmic twitches of the rod tip make the lure change direction repeatedly, creating the appearance of a disoriented or fleeing baitfish and providing a highly visible surface presentation for species such as bream, Australian bass, estuary perch, trevally, tailor and mangrove jack.

Rear-Weighted Casting Design

The Shift-R is rear-weighted to optimise casting performance, helping the lure travel efficiently through the air and allowing anglers to reach feeding fish, distant structure, flats, banks and other productive areas. This is particularly useful when surface fishing because anglers can cover more water and reach fish feeding away from the boat or shoreline.

Front Treble and Rear Assist Hook Configuration

Rather than using conventional treble hooks at both attachment points, the Shift-R combines a front treble with rear assist hooks. This provides hook coverage around the body of the lure while the flexible rear assist hooks provide additional hook exposure around the tail for fish striking from behind or underneath the lure.

Rigged and Ready to Fish

Every Shift-R comes factory-rigged with its front treble and rear assist hooks, providing anglers with a complete surface lure that can be tied on and fished straight from the packet without needing to purchase or fit additional hook hardware.

Two Sizes for Different Surface Presentations

The Shift-R is available in 70mm and 85mm sizes. The compact 70mm model provides a smaller surface presentation particularly well suited to species such as bream, whiting, Australian bass and estuary perch or situations where predators are feeding on smaller prey. The larger 85mm model creates greater surface presence and provides a larger bait profile for bigger or more aggressive predators including bass, estuary perch, tailor, trevally and mangrove jack.

Freshwater, Estuary and Inshore Versatility

The Shift-R is designed for surface fishing across freshwater, estuary and inshore environments. It can be worked around river banks, flats, weed edges, timber, pontoons, rock walls, mangrove edges and other areas where predatory fish feed near the surface. This versatility allows the same lure platform to target everything from bream and whiting through to Australian bass, estuary perch, trevally and mangrove jack.

How do i fish the Bite Science Shift-R?

The Shift-R is designed primarily for a walk-the-dog retrieve. Point the rod tip towards the water and use repeated short twitches while retrieving line to make the lure move from side to side across the surface. It can be worked quickly to create an aggressive fleeing-baitfish presentation or slowed down and paused when fish are less active. This makes it effective for surface-feeding species including bream, Australian bass, estuary perch, tailor and trevally.

What is the difference between the 70mm and 85mm Shift-R?

The Shift-R 70mm provides a smaller surface presentation suited to lighter tackle, smaller prey profiles and species such as bream, whiting, Australian bass and estuary perch. The 85mm provides a larger and more visible surface presentation for anglers targeting larger or more aggressive predators such as bass, estuary perch, tailor, trevally and mangrove jack. Both sizes have the same $15 RRP, allowing anglers to choose based on the target species and conditions rather than price.

Why does the Shift-R have assist hooks on the rear?

The Shift-R combines a conventional front treble with flexible rear assist hooks to provide hook coverage around different areas of the lure. The rear assist hooks provide an additional hooking point around the tail of the lure for predators attacking the surface presentation from behind or underneath.
